Remember when you could just talk to someone about their dog barking?

Left a polite note on my neighbor's door last week about his beagle howling at 5 AM, and he responded by blasting polka music for two hours straight. Anyone have a better tactic that doesn't start a noise war?

Ugh, that's the worst kind of neighbor response. Maybe try catching him outside casually, so it feels less like a formal complaint?

Yeah, have you tried just being out front when he gets home? Like casually watering plants or checking the mail right as he pulls up. Makes it feel more like a friendly heads up than a confrontation. Keep it super brief too, just a "hey man, the bass was really loud last night, could you turn it down a bit?" Then walk away. Don't stand there waiting for a reaction. That's what works with my neighbor, he's got a sound system that shakes my whole living room. One quick chat while I was taking out the trash fixed it.
