Rant: That $200 security camera that caught nothing but my own porch

I bought a fancy Ring camera last spring after someone stole my packages twice in a row. Spent a full Saturday mounting it just right, running the wire, getting the app set up. Two weeks later my neighbor's kid kicked a soccer ball through my window and the camera only showed 30 seconds of empty sidewalk. What do you even do with a camera that misses everything important? Anyone else feel like these things are a total scam or did I just get a dud?

Did you try angling it down so it catches faces instead of just the sky?

Yeah everything's just setup to look at the horizon these days, nobody aims for people anymore.
