Rant: I thought my neighbor's noise complaints were just whining until 3 AM last Tuesday

They kept saying our backyard fire pit was too loud. I figured they were just being picky. Then last week, we had a small get-together. At 3 AM, a cop showed up. The neighbor had called in a noise complaint from two houses down. The cop said our voices were clearly carrying. Now I get it. Sound really travels at night. Anyone else have a neighbor who was right about the noise?

Been there. Move the party inside after 10, no question. That late night air acts like a megaphone straight to your neighbor's bedroom. A cheap decibel meter app can show you how loud you actually are. Good on you for getting it now, most people just double down and make enemies.

Yeah, the "sound really travels at night" thing is so true. I read an article once about how cooler, still air makes noise carry way farther. Makes you rethink those late nights outside.
