People keep calling the cops before they even talk to their neighbor
I've seen this happen three times on my street in the last year. Someone's music is a bit loud or their dog barks, and the first move is a 911 call. Last Tuesday, a guy two doors down had a small backyard cookout, and the cops showed up because someone complained about the 'party noise' at 8 PM. It just makes everything worse. How do you even start a normal chat after that?

But what if you've already tried talking and it didn't work? I had a neighbor who would blast music every night. I asked nicely three times, and it just got louder. Calling the non-emergency line was my last step because I needed to sleep for work. Sometimes the direct chat fails.

Yeah, but sometimes the direct chat puts you in a bad spot. I had a neighbor who would rev his motorcycle at 6am every single day. I went over, was super polite, and he told me to get lost. The next morning it was even louder, like it was on purpose. At that point, calling the non-emergency line felt like the only option left that wouldn't lead to a screaming match.
