My neighbor's invisible fence saga ended with a dog on my porch and a 200 dollar vet bill
Tbh, I never thought I'd be the one dealing with the aftermath of someone else's bad fence setup. My neighbor three doors down put in an invisible fence last spring, but he never actually trained his golden retriever, Buddy. Buddy figured out the beep meant nothing if he ran fast enough, so he'd bolt through the boundary every time a squirrel moved. Last Tuesday, Buddy showed up on my porch with a gash on his leg from a rusty chain link fence he'd plowed into during his escape. I spent 4 hours at the vet and 200 bucks getting him stitched up before his owner even noticed he was gone. Honestly, how do you spend all that money on an invisible fence but skip the part where you teach the dog what the beep means? Has anyone else dealt with a neighbor who thinks the technology does all the work for them?

Buddy came to my yard with a bloody paw last summer after her invisible fence gave out. Same deal, the owner put the wire in and figured that was it. I ended up taking the dog to the vet myself and then had a talk with the guy when he got home. Told him flat out you need to train the dog with flags and the beep for weeks, not just bury a wire. He was defensive at first but I showed him the vet bill and he paid me back. After that he actually did the training right and the dog stopped getting out. Sometimes you have to let people know their shortcut cost you real money.

Had a neighbor who did the same thing until their dog ended up at the pound.
