My neighbor's barking dog actually grew on me after a chat
I used to be the guy who called the cops every time my neighbor's dog went off for more than 10 minutes. But last week I finally walked over to complain in person instead of leaving a note. He explained the dog is a rescue with major anxiety from its first home, and he's been doing training sessions every Saturday for 6 months straight. I mean, i never considered that maybe the dog wasn't just being a jerk on purpose. We ended up talking for 20 minutes about noise cancelling headphones and now i actually feel bad for how i handled it before. Has anyone else had a neighbor situation flip after you actually talked face to face?

Did you check if the training sessions were with a certified behaviorist? Some trainers online call themselves experts but don't have the credentials to handle anxiety cases like that.

Not sure if it's really that serious for most cases though. A lot of people have worked with regular trainers and seen good results with mild anxiety. Don't you think throwing around "certified behaviorist" for every issue is a bit overkill? Sometimes you just need a patient person who knows dogs, not a whole PhD in animal psychology. Unless the dog is biting people or destroying the house, I'd say a solid trainer with good reviews is probably fine.
