My neighbor called me out for my lawn sprinkler setup

I used to run my sprinklers every morning at 7 AM sharp. Thought I was being a good homeowner. My neighbor, an older guy who gardens a lot, finally came over last month. He said, 'You're watering the sidewalk more than your grass, and it's waking my dog.' I was annoyed at first. But I watched it one morning. He was right. Half the water was hitting the concrete. I adjusted all the heads. Now I water at 8 AM, three days a week. The grass looks better, and his dog sleeps in. Anyone else get a complaint that actually made sense in the end?

Funny how that works... my old roommate used to blast music super early on Sundays. Took a noise complaint to finally see his side of it.

Man, why is it always the roommate who's the loud one? I was totally that guy in college, blasting terrible music before noon like I was doing the world a favor. Took my neighbor pounding on the wall during a particularly bad pop punk phase to realize I was the problem.

Read an article about how our brains just don't process our own noise the same way. Said we filter out our own music or TV as background, but hear everyone else's as an invasion. Makes you wonder if that's why roommates are always the last to know they're the loud one.
