Lost $150 on a noise machine that made my neighbor's dog bark louder
Bought a fancy ultrasonic bark deterrent for $150 last week to stop the neighbor's beagle from howling at 6am, but it just made the dog go NUTS and bark even MORE, so has anyone found a device that actually works or should I just start recording the noise and filing a complaint with the city?

Yeah those ultrasonic things are hit or miss, they can actually rile some dogs up instead of calming them down. Might be worth trying a white noise machine for yourself instead, cheaper and won't make the beagle lose its mind.

Consider talking to the beagle's owner directly about a consistent feeding or walk schedule. In my experience, dogs bark more when they're bored or hungry rather than just for attention. @olivia_allen's white noise suggestion is solid but sometimes a quick chat can solve these things without any gadgets.

Oh come on, it's just a little barking from a beagle (and let's be real, beagles are gonna beagle). Is a construction worker using a jackhammer outside at 7am really "way worse" than a neighbor's dog doing its thing for a few minutes? I feel like we're turning minor annoyances into full-blown crises when a simple pair of earplugs or a loud fan would do the trick. Not saying it's not annoying, but we're acting like it's a sonic invasion or something.
