Can we talk about how the "just talk to them" advice falls apart when your neighbor is on the HOA board?
Everyone on here says the same thing, go knock on their door and work it out like adults. I used to believe that too until I moved into a place off 5th Street in Dayton 3 years back. My neighbor had a floodlight pointed right at my bedroom window, so I walked over with a six pack and tried to be cool about it. He smiled, shook my hand, and said he would angle it down. Two nights later it was back up and pointed at my house even worse than before. That was when I found out he sat on the HOA board and had already filed two complaints about my trash cans. I spent 4 months being polite while he racked up complaints on me for stuff he made up. Now I skip the friendly door knock and send everything in writing with dates and photos. Has anyone actually had the nice neighbor talk work, or is that just something people say online?
