Am I the only one who thought a $7 foam roller from Five Below was a total joke until my physical therapist made me use it?

My sister gave me one of those cheap blue foam rollers as a gag gift 8 months ago because she knows I hate anything that looks like a gym toy. I tossed it in the garage next to my old shop vac and forgot about it. Then in March I pulled something in my lower back lifting a condenser unit and my PT in Dayton told me to roll my IT band for 2 minutes a night. I figured it was nonsense but did it anyway for 3 weeks. My knee pain that I had been blaming on 12 hour days on concrete actually dropped from a 7 to a 2 on my own dumb scale. Now I want to know if the $40 fancy ones are actually better or if I just got lucky with the dollar store version.
