TIL a guy on the trail near Buena Vista talked me out of my 15 mile a day plan
I ran into this older hiker at a water source on the Colorado Trail near Buena Vista and he asked how many miles I had planned for the day. I said 15, and he just kind of laughed and said "that's a town pace, not a mountain pace." He was 63 and had done the whole thing twice, and he told me he plans 8 to 10 miles a day on that stretch because of the climbs and the altitude. I cut my daily goal down on the next section and it was the first time I actually enjoyed the hike instead of just grinding through it. Curious if anyone else here plans around elevation gain instead of miles, and what number usually works for you?
