The old logging trail up Mount Baker got rerouted and it threw me off

I hiked the old Baker River trail last weekend for the first time in like 8 years. Somewhere around mile 4 they completely moved the path because of a washout, so I ended up climbing this steep slope that wasn't even on my map. I miss the old switchbacks, they were slower but easier on the knees. Has anybody else run into a reroute on a familiar trail that totally changed the vibe?

Oh man, I totally feel you. The same thing happened to me up by Lake 22 last year, they moved the trail away from the creek and it just felt wrong the whole time. I spent an extra hour trying to find the old path before giving up.

That stubbornness about the old path is real, I did the same thing on the Enchantments last fall when they rerouted around a boggy section. It's almost like your feet remember where the trail used to go even when your brain knows better. Have you noticed trails changing more often these last few years?

That reroute near Lake 22, did they pave anything or just move the dirt around?
