Pro tip: Wilderness permit queues are a test of patience no one needs
I set my alarm for 3 AM to log on, and the site crashed right when permits opened. All that prep down the drain, and now I'm back to square one.

That "site crashed" moment is the worst kind of modern life fail. It's the same feeling as trying to get concert tickets or a decent doctor's appointment online. The systems we're told to use just don't work when everyone needs them. It makes planning anything feel impossible.

Blame the bean counters who won't okay server upgrades for one busy day a year. They see it as wasting money to build for a spike that lasts hours. So we all jam the system and get the crash experience. It's cheaper for them to apologize than to fix it. This happens so much we just expect online things to fail under pressure. Makes you wonder if they even want these systems to work right.
