My old way of planning routes with paper maps was killing my legs.

Switched to Gaia GPS three years ago after I blew out my knee on a badly marked trail in the Smokies, and now I trace elevation profiles before every trip does anyone else trust the app more than the signs?

Trust the app more than the signs" - that's a hard yes. Paper signs lie, GPS doesn't.

Please, I have had GPS try to send me down a road that was literally a creek bed. But at least it admitted its mistake and rerouted. A paper sign just sits there, smug, pointing to a town that was bypassed in 1987. "Oh, you wanted to go to Millfield? Sorry, the sign doesn't care about your feelings or the fact the interstate ate the old highway." I'll take the sassy robot over the passive-aggressive green rectangle any day. At least the robot stutters and recalculates. The sign just stares at you, daring you to figure out its ancient riddles.

@simons28 has a point but is it really that serious to not look at a road sign?
