My buddy's comment about his old external frame pack has me second guessing my ultralight setup

He said he's carried the same Kelty frame pack for 12 years and never had a hip belt fail or a zipper blow out, and after I just spent $300 on a Dyneema pack that already has a seam pulling apart after 3 trips, has anyone else gone back to heavier gear that actually lasts longer?

Ha! Yeah I ditched my ultralight tent for an old heavy one that still works perfectly.

There's this weird pressure to buy the newest, fanciest gear when the old stuff just works, kind of like how everyone replaces their phone every two years for no real reason.
