Met a guy on the PCT who swore by wool socks in summer

He said cotton would blister me up and I laughed it off until mile 45 when my feet were hamburger, anyone else have a piece of gear advice they ignored and regretted?

mile 45 on the PCT is pretty impressive though, most people don't make it that far before their feet fall apart. i mean, wool is great but honestly even good synthetic socks would've been better than straight cotton for that kind of hiking.

I saw this video from a guy who hiked the whole AT and he was saying even smartwool socks get trashed after like 3 days on the trail if you don't air your feet out. He swore by these brand called Darn Tough that have some kind of lifetime warranty on them. But honestly even with that, he said the bigger deal was changing socks at every break and letting your boots dry out. 45 miles in cotton though, that's just asking for blisters the size of dinner plates.
