Met a guy named Joe on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia who just walked 30 miles straight without stopping for a break...

When I asked him why, he said his boots felt good and the views kept him going and I still wonder if that was just stubbornness or pure focus... anyone else run into hikers with weird habits like that?

Met a thru-hiker last summer on the Long Trail in Vermont who refused to take his pack off for anything short of three hours. Said he'd timed his "system" down to the minute. 30 miles straight is crazy but I kind of get it. Boots feel good and your legs just lock into a rhythm. He told me his record was 27 miles without a sip of water which I thought was dangerous but he swore by it.

I read somewhere that hiking without breaks actually lets you hit a flow state like some runners do.
