Hot take: The Colorado Trail is overrated after a bad storm near Twin Lakes

Got caught in a sudden hailstorm near Twin Lakes last August. Trail turned into a muddy river in minutes. My cheap rain gear soaked through, had to bail to a lower campsite. Anyone else ditch a planned route because of weather?

Man, that sounds brutal. Getting caught in a storm like that can totally wreck a trip. Smart call to bail and get to lower ground.

My buddy and I got pinned under a rock overhang on Mount Washington for three hours once. The wind was so strong it ripped the map right out of his hands. We just sat there eating soggy trail mix, watching it sail into the clouds. You make the right call real fast in those conditions.

Yeah, that stretch gets nasty fast when it rains.
