Hiked the Knife Edge in Baxter State Park last month and it's way overrated

People hype it up like it's some crazy technical scramble but it took me 20 minutes and the views were no better than what you get from the Tableland. Anyone else think that trail gets more credit than it deserves?

Oh man, thank you for saying this. I felt the exact same way when I did it last fall. Everyone talks about it like it's this life or death scramble and I was all geared up for something intense, but it was basically just a quick walk with some mild exposure. The Tableland view is so much nicer too, you get the whole Katahdin massif instead of just that one narrow angle. I was honestly kind of annoyed I'd hyped myself up for it so much.

@julia_miller24 your ranger story is gold. Same here, I timed it at 19 minutes and felt robbed of the adrenaline.

Last year I literally showed up with climbing gloves and a helmet like an idiot. The Knife Edge took me 18 minutes and I timed it. I spent way more time getting the courage to scramble down the Chimney than I did on the actual edge itself. Felt so dumb when I saw little kids running across it without a care. The Tableland view is way better and you dont have to pretend you're on a serious mountaineering route to get there. But hey at least my helmet was a good conversation starter with the ranger who laughed at me.
