Dropped $200 on a lightweight tent and it ripped on day three
That ultralight fabric just couldn't handle a single branch and now I'm back to my old 5-pound tent, anyone else learn the hard way that saving weight costs durability?

Yeah thats about right. Spend all that money to save a pound and a half and one twig just says "nah, not today".

Yeah that sucks. Is there anyway to patch it?

I actually see it a little different @alexw75. That twig is just doing its job, it's not being stubborn on purpose. All that time and money you spent on weight savings, what does it matter if you skip the one thing that keeps a branch from punching a hole in something important? You patch the spot on the trail and move on, that's just part of the deal out there. Better to have a slow moment from a twig than a broken part from ignoring it.
