Chose the Smokies over the Sierras for a 5 day solo trip back in 2014 and honestly I still wonder if I picked wrong when I see photos of the High Sierra camps.
I went with the Smokies because it was closer and cheaper but the trail was way more crowded than I expected, has anyone else picked convenience over a dream route and regretted it or was it just me?

Oh man I feel you, I picked the Ozarks over the Rockies for a hike once and still kick myself every time I see those big mountain photos.

I live near the Ozarks and people definitely oversell them as a hiking destination. The elevation gain on most trails is maybe 500 feet if you're lucky. I get that the Rockies are a whole different league but missing out on a hike there isn't something that should haunt you for years. It's a weekend trip, not a life defining choice. You saw some pretty green trees and a creek, it wasn't a total waste. Unless you literally had a plane ticket to Colorado and swapped it for a drive to Missouri, I'd say you're fine.

Right? Ozarks basically gave me hills not mountains. Still salty about it.
