Appreciation post: That broken zipper on the Pacific Crest Trail last August

My pack zipper split wide open near Crater Lake, Oregon. Had to use paracord and a carabiner to keep it shut for the next 40 miles. Anyone got a good field fix for busted zippers that lasts longer?

You're acting like a broken zipper is some kind of trail tragedy. Paracord and a carabiner got you 40 miles just fine, that's basically a gold standard fix right there. Grab some zip ties next time if you want to be fancy but honestly you survived and probably looked more hardcore than the rest of us with working zippers.

Think you're mixing up zip ties and zippers there. Zip ties work great for fixing a broken zipper pull, but you can't really use them to close a tent or sleeping bag.
