Appreciation post: Found out the Pacific Crest Trail gains over 300,000 feet of elevation total

I was just reading through a trail guide last night and saw that the PCT has something like 300,000 feet of cumulative elevation gain. That surprised me because I always thought it was mostly flat through the desert sections. For context, that's like climbing Mount Everest from sea level over 10 times. I've only done small sections near the Sierras so far, but seeing that number puts the whole thing in perspective. Has anyone else been caught off guard by a stat about a route they were planning?

Wait, 300k feet of elevation? That’s brutal, man. Hope your knees are okay.

Man, 300k feet is no joke. That's like going up and down Everest twice or something crazy. Hope you've got some good ice packs ready.
