Update: I thought 'link roundup' outreach was a total waste of time

After tracking results for 90 days, a single mention in a niche roundup brought in 14 referral visits and 3 solid links from smaller sites that saw it. Anyone have a better pitch template for these than the generic 'I saw your post' one?

Oh wow, that's awesome to hear! I had the exact same thing happen last month, got a tiny mention that led to a couple of those smaller sites picking it up. For pitches, I've had way better luck when I add a quick line about why that specific link was a perfect fit for their roundup theme, not just that I saw it. Makes it feel less copy-pasted.

72 years old and I still can't figure out if 14 visits is a win or a loss, but three links from smaller sites is three more than I had before. My pitch template is just "hey, saw you collected some great resources and thought this one might fit" plus a photo of my dog looking sad, not sure if that helps at all. I tried the generic "I saw your post" once and got a reply telling me my link was spam because the website looked like it was built in 1996. At least the dog photo gets a chuckle sometimes, even if the roundup editor doesn't add the link.

Honestly those results sound like a huge time sink for almost no payoff. Fourteen visits and three links from tiny sites after three months? You could get more just by posting in a couple relevant subreddits. The whole process of finding roundups and sending emails is way too much work for what you get back.
