Threw $300 at a broken link service in Austin and got nothing back

I paid a guy on Upwork $300 to find broken links on authority sites in my niche and email them about my content as a replacement. He sent me a list of 50 links, but 40 of them were already marked as dead for months with no response from the webmasters. The other 10 were just low quality directories with no real traffic. Has anyone actually had good results paying for broken link building, or is it better to just do the outreach yourself?

wait, you paid someone $300 to email dead links on directory sites that nobody reads? lol. bro, broken link building works but only if you actually check the links are live and the sites have real traffic first. sounds like that guy just ran a basic scrape and called it a day. you basically paid for a list you could have generated for free with a chrome extension in 10 minutes. honestly, doing the outreach yourself is the only way to go unless you have someone who actually knows what they're doing and can prove results. next time just save your money and spend a weekend doing it manually, you'll get way better results.

looks like that guy just ran a basic scrape" - yeah, I read something similar on Twitter the other day, @hugo_schmidt nailed it.
