The guest post vs. broken link building choice that surprised me

I had a site about dental care tips and needed to pick one method to focus on for backlinks. I went with broken link building because I figured finding dead pages would be easier than pitching guest posts. After 3 weeks of sending emails to webmasters, I got exactly 2 links back from it. Now I'm wondering if I should have just stuck with guest posting instead, has anyone else found one of these methods way more productive than the other?

2 links in 3 weeks is 2 more than my love life got me.

2 links from cold emails in 3 weeks is actually pretty solid for broken link building. I'd take that over writing full guest posts that might get ignored anyway.
