Pro tip: I built 6 guest posts to a Plumber's blog in Ohio thinking it would bomb, got 200 visits in one day
So back around 2019 I was doing backlinks for a small plumbing client in Dayton and I had this idea that a plumbing blog would be the worst place to get a link from. Nobody reads plumbing blogs, right? But I found this one guy in Cincinnati who ran a site about water heater repair and he let me write 6 posts over 2 months. The posts were boring stuff, how to flush a tank, when to replace an anode rod, that kind of thing. What I did not expect was that one of those posts ended up ranking for a long tail term and pulled about 200 visitors to my client's site in a single day, which blew my mind because I had spent way more on a big directory push earlier that year for almost nothing. I checked the referral traffic in Search Console and it was almost all from that one water heater post. Learned that a small niche blog with real readers can beat a big general site every time, it is about whether the people reading actually need a plumber. Has anyone else had a tiny site send way more traffic than they thought it would?
