Paid $150 for a 'premium' link directory submission service in 2018

Three years ago I handed over $150 to some guy on a forum who promised 50 high DA directory backlinks in a week. All I got was a spreadsheet of links that were already dead by the time I checked them. Anyone else get burned by those old directory services or was I just the only sucker who fell for it?

Premium link directory submission service" always sounded like a scam to me back then... directory backlinks were already losing value by 2018. Actually, Google had been devaluing those for years before you paid up, so even a "live" directory link wouldn't have helped much by that point. Sorry you got burned, but at least it was a cheap lesson compared to what some folks lost on PBNs.

Yeah totally agree @sullivan.finley. I got suckered into one of those services back in 2017 and my rankings actually dropped a bit after, probably just wasted $50 for nothing.

Gotta love how people promising shortcuts always show up right before Google changes the game. @sullivan.finley is right though, it's like those "get rich quick" schemes that always show up right when real opportunities start drying up.
