My mentor said my guest post pitches sounded like a robot wrote them

He told me to stop using phrases like 'I trust this finds you well' and just talk like a normal person. I switched to a more casual tone and my reply rate from editors in Austin doubled in a month. Anyone else get called out for sounding too stiff in outreach?

Hold on, is it really that bad to get feedback that stings? I mean, if someone's taking the time to tell you something uncomfortable, aren't they doing you a favor? That stuff they said to me years ago was brutal, yeah, but it pointed out a bad habit in my concrete work I would've never caught myself so I ended up way better for it.
