I watched a guy on a webinar say 'just buy links' and I almost threw my laptop

He was selling a $500 course and told everyone to just buy a bunch of links from a cheap marketplace, like that's a real strategy. My site got hit with a manual penalty in 2021 from doing that exact thing, and it took eight months to recover. Does anyone actually think Google can't spot a bought link from a mile away?

I read somewhere that tax penalties basically fund like 10% of the IRS budget, so I guess we're all just doing our civic duty the hard way. Take that with a grain of salt though, I barely passed math myself.
