I used to think guest posts were a waste of time for link building

Last month I gave it a real try after a guy in a Facebook group showed me his traffic jump from a single post on a niche cooking site. It took 3 hours of outreach but landed a .edu link that bumped my domain rating by 2 points. Has anyone else found a specific type of guest post that worked better than others?

Do they actually move the needle or just look good on a link audit?

Yeah I jumped in thinking the same thing and then completely ate my words after I saw what a .edu link actually did for me. I spent like 4 hours crafting this dumb post about cast iron care and sent it to 15 different college cooking blogs. One guy actually replied and published it and my traffic from that page alone doubled in a week. It was honestly embarrassing how much I had to eat my own words. Now I feel like that meme of the guy putting the stick in his own bike spokes.
