I finally stopped chasing high DR links for my niche site

For like 6 months I was obsessed with getting links from sites with Domain Ratings above 70. I spent hours hunting down these huge media outlets and trade publications. But then I looked at my analytics and saw the traffic from those links was basically zero. Meanwhile a random mention on a small forum with a DR of 22 brought in 40 visitors a week. That forum post also got me 3 real customer signups in one month. So yeah, I realized relevance and actual audience overlap matter way more than that DR number. Now I only go after sites where I can see real engagement in their comments or traffic. Has anyone else had a low DR link outperform their high DR ones?

Right? I guess I finally learned what "relevant" actually means (the hard way though).

Honestly, are we sure we're not just picking the wrong metrics to care about? Ngl, that DR70 ghost town traffic might actually be better for building authority with Google over time, not to mention how those high DR links can open doors for guest post requests or brand mentions later. Tbh, I've seen sites get massively penalized for focusing on low quality forums just because they had a quick traffic spike. Plus, that DR22 traffic from a forum could vanish overnight if the site goes down or changes their outbound link structure, whereas a DR70 link still holds weight even after the initial burst fades.

That 40 visitors a week from a DR22 forum sounds way more useful than the ghost town traffic from a DR70 site, huh? Guess I’ve been worshipping at the wrong altar this whole time (but hey, at least yours actually worked).
