How I spent 6 months building backlinks to my 'About Us' page before someone finally called me out

I was grinding hard trading guest posts and forum links for months. Every backlink went straight to my About Us page because I thought the homepage was too obvious. Then a guy in a SEO facebook group asked why my site was getting zero organic traffic despite having 150 backlinks. I looked at my analytics and sure enough nobody clicks on About pages. Felt like a total idiot. Has anyone else aimed links at the wrong pages for way too long?

Did you ever stop to wonder why nobody in those Facebook groups or forums mentioned targeting the About page was a weird move before that one guy?

Tbh I don't get why people act like this is the end of the world. You put some backlinks on a page that doesn't get traffic, so what? Just change the links and move on. SEO is full of trial and error and nobody gets it perfect the first time. The bigger issue is why you didn't check your analytics for six months. That's on you, not the About page. Like who spends half a year building anything without looking at results even once?
