Got roasted by an SEO for chasing .gov links only
A guy on a Moz forum told me I was wasting time going after .gov links for my HVAC blog. He said those are hard to get and don't always pass juice. I switched to targeting local chamber of commerce sites and resource pages from community colleges. Now I get 3 to 4 solid links a month instead of maybe one every 6 months. Anyone else gotten feedback that made you totally pivot your link strategy?

Dude, that's hilarious because my buddy runs a little plumbing blog and he was dead set on only getting .edu links. Thought it was the secret sauce or whatever. Spent like a whole year cold emailing university webmasters and got basically nothing. Then some random SEO on Twitter told him to go after small town business association sites instead. Now he's picking up links from like the Podunk Chamber of Commerce and local hardware stores. He texts me last week all excited because he got one from the city's official recreation page. Funny how some random advice from a stranger can totally flip your whole game plan around.

Whoa wait, the Podunk Chamber of Commerce? That's insane. I can't believe the city rec page even had a link back to him. Guess the real secret is just grabbing any local site that will have you.
