The time I kept offering to pay on dates and nobody wanted that

I went on like 8 dates last fall always offering to split the bill, thinking it was polite. Then one girl finally said "you keep trying to pay like we're negotiating a contract" and I realized I was killing the vibe by making it transactional.

One time I told a date "you can get the next one" and she just stared at me like I asked her to co-sign a loan. I still don't know if that was smooth or weird.

Three dates in I just started saying "my treat, your treat next time" and it actually relaxed things. Nobody wants to feel like they're keeping score over tacos.
