The silent treatment on a date taught me phone-checking had a purpose
For 5 months I thought checking your phone during dinner was rude, but after a date in Austin where we sat in silence for 20 minutes because he had zero conversation, I now think a quick scroll is way better than staring at a wall, so which is worse: the person glued to their screen or the one who brings nothing to talk about?
