The car door that refused to close on my date's side
I picked her up in my old 97 Civic, which I normally drive 6 days a week with no issues. We head to this diner downtown and she gets out first, but the passenger door won't latch shut no matter how hard she slams it. I had to hold it closed with a bungee cord from my trunk for the whole 15 minute drive back. How do you recover from having to tie your date's door shut with a rope?

Bungee cord repair is a whole mood. She either thinks you're resourceful or a red flag. Next date rent a different car.

My buddy Dave once showed up to a double date with his passenger door held shut by a ski strap. Red one. Looked like a seatbelt from a clown car. He introduced it as "the anti-theft system." She laughed but I saw her text her friend under the table. They dated for three months though so go figure. The thing is women can smell desperation on a broken car. If you own it like it's a choice they usually let it slide. If you act like it's a problem they'll start looking for other problems too.

Wait hold up, you drove a 97 Civic 6 days a week with no issues? That's like a unicorn car or something. My buddy had a 98 Civic and the thing needed a new alternator every other month. Anyway, @felixfisher is onto something though. The bungee cord move is either genius or a warning sign depending on how you sold it. If you played it cool like "oh yeah this old girl just needs a little love sometimes" and cracked a joke about it, she probably thought you were handy. But if you panicked and started sweating while tying knots, yeah that's a red flag. Next time just say your door handle broke earlier that day and you forgot to fix it. Makes you look forgetful but not like your car is falling apart around you. The real test is if she texts back after that ride.
