That time I asked my date if she wanted to split the bill and she walked out

I was at this Italian place in downtown Portland. Things were going fine, talking about work and whatever. Then the check came and I just asked if she wanted to split it 50/50. She stared at me for a second, said "you're kidding right" and then literally got up and left. I sat there for 5 minutes before the waiter came back. Has anyone else had a date end over money talk that quick?

She literally said 'you're kidding right' and just walked out? That's wild, like she didn't even give you a second to explain or anything.

Yeah @kelly_nelson95 I actually read something similar on another forum where someone's friend just shut down mid-conversation and walked away. It seems like some people just hit their limit and can't handle any more talking in the moment.

Honestly, I used to think people who just walk out mid-conversation were just being dramatic lol. But reading this kind of changed my view. Like, your friend didn't even get a chance to explain herself because the other person just hit a wall and bailed. I've been on both sides of that now and I get it. Sometimes you're so shocked or upset that your brain just shuts down and you can't even process what's happening. It makes me wonder if I've done that to someone without realizing how bad it feels from the other side.
