Serious question, did you know a study found 34% of first dates involve someone Googling the other person BEFORE meeting?
I found that stat in a psychology article from last month, and it made me rethink my own awkward coffee date where my date already knew about my failed pottery class from my public Instagram.

Serious question" feels like a stretch here. That's just normal now, not some deep psychology thing. People looked each other up in phone books before the internet. It's the same basic idea, just faster. Calling it a "study" makes it sound way more important than it is. It's just what happens when you have easy access to info. My date knowing about my bad pottery pics is awkward, sure, but it's not a crisis. It's just modern life.

The real question is what happens when the search results are wrong. Imagine being judged over a case of mistaken identity.

My cousin got turned down for a security clearance last year because of a mix-up. Some guy with the same name in another state had a felony record. It took him six months of paperwork and calls to prove he wasn't that person. The official report still has a footnote about it. He says it feels like a stain that won't wash out.
