Pro tip: I turned a silent dinner date around by asking about his worst concert ever.

Oh man, that's a great tip. I totally agree with @walker.max, those disaster stories are where you see someone's real personality. My worst concert was this outdoor festival where it poured rain for four hours straight and the sound cut out. We were just miserable, muddy lumps by the end.

Yeah that's a solid move. I've found asking about a bad experience, like a terrible vacation or a failed DIY project, works way better than asking for someone's best anything. People light up telling those stories, it's way more real.

Wait, has anyone else tried this with cooking disasters? @walker.max your tip is spot on. I once told a coworker about the time I tried to bake a birthday cake and accidentally used salt instead of sugar. They laughed so hard they almost cried, and then they told me about their own kitchen fail where they set off the fire alarm making toast. Its like once you admit you messed up, everyone feels safe to share their own trainwreck stories. The best connections Ive made all started with someone being like "yeah, I ruined that too.
