My sister told me my date's weird hobby was actually a green flag

I went out with a guy last week who spent 20 minutes explaining his rock polishing setup in the garage. I thought it was super awkward and told my sister later. She said, 'At least he has a real passion, my last date just scrolled TikTok.' That hit different because I realized I was judging his excitement as weird instead of seeing it as genuine. Now I'm debating if a date sharing a niche interest is actually a good sign or just awkward. What's the line between someone being passionate and making a date uncomfortable?

Hold up, he has a whole rock polishing setup in his garage? That's actually kind of awesome lol. Your sister has a point though, a guy getting that into his thing beats someone who can't look up from their phone. The line is probably if he notices you're lost and tries to bring you into it, instead of just talking at you for the whole date. Passion is cool, but a total lack of awareness can make it weird.
