My date's 45 minute ramble about his ex's sourdough starter

Last Tuesday in Austin this guy I met on Hinge spent 45 minutes telling me about his ex's sourdough starter and how she named it Gary, I honestly thought he was joking at first. Then he got upset when I suggested he just bake his own bread instead of missing Gary, and the whole table went quiet. Has anyone else had a date that turned into a therapy session for a weird food item, or is this just a new level of awkward I stumbled into?
