My $80 dinner bill turned into the most awkward night ever

So I took this girl out to a nice Italian place downtown, thinking a sit-down dinner would be a good first date. The bill came to about $80, which I was fine with, but then she just stared at her phone the whole time I was paying. I tried to make conversation about the food, and she just gave one-word answers. The worst part was when the waiter asked if we wanted dessert, she said 'I'm good' without even looking up from her screen. I felt like I paid $80 to watch someone scroll through Instagram. Has anyone else had a date where you felt completely invisible after picking up the check?

Nah man, that's just rude. If you're out with someone, the least you can do is look up from your phone, especially when they're paying.

Read an article calling phones the new cigarettes at dinner.

Check your expectations about paying the bill. Covering dinner doesn't buy someone's attention, it just covers dinner. Maybe she was just a bad date who would have been on her phone anyway, right?
