Comparing blind dates from 2005 vs now is a total different world

Back in 2005 I went on a blind date a buddy set up and we met at a diner. No phones out, just awkward small talk about my plumbing job and her work at a dental office. We lasted maybe 45 minutes and I paid $12 for two coffees and a slice of pie. Fast forward to last year and a friend tried setting me up again, but she spent half the dinner scrolling Instagram. I ended up showing her photos of a pipe burst I fixed which was somehow less awkward. Anyone else notice how phones wrecked the flow of first dates over the past 15 years?

Tbh phones probably just make bad dates end faster instead of dragging through boring small talk.

Ain't that the truth? Last blind date I had the girl asked me to pause our conversation so she could finish a TikTok and I just sat there like a moron staring at the salt shaker.
