Compared my go-to sushi spot to a $40 omakase, one was clearly better
I went to this tiny sushi place in Portland last Friday that everyone raves about, and it was honestly mid. The fish was fine but the rice was too warm and fell apart, and the wasabi tasted fake. Then my coworker dragged me to a spot across town where they do a 12-piece omakase for $40, and every single bite was fresh and balanced. The difference was the chef actually controlled the rice temp and seasoned it properly, whereas the other place just piled fish on. Has anyone else had a cheaper place completely outdo a hyped-up expensive one? I'm still confused why people line up for the first spot.
