Warning: 3M part number label peel-off nearly grounded a CRJ-700

Had a weird one happen last Tuesday in Omaha. Was working on the weather radar system in a CRJ-700, and a 3M label with the part number for a PDU just peeled right off in my hand. I'd been reaching around to check a connector, and the label stuck to my glove then came off clean. Took me 45 minutes to figure out which part was which by cross-referencing wiring diagrams. Has anyone else had those labels fail like that in cold hangar temps? I'm thinking of using a clear coat spray on them going forward.

Did you try warming the label up with a heat gun on low before you peel? I actually had this same thing happen with some warning stickers on a Falcon 900 a few years back. The cold makes that adhesive brittle as glass. I've started keeping a small space heater pointed at the panel for about 10 minutes before I even touch those labels in winter. The clear coat idea might work but you gotta make sure it doesn't mess with any inspection requirements down the line. Some of those labels are supposed to be removable for a reason.

Oh man, Troy is spot on with that heat gun tip! I had the exact same issue on my Bonanza last winter and tried peeling a cold label. What a mess. Now I just hit it with a hair dryer for a minute and they come right off clean.
