Swapped my Fluke 87 for a Brymen 869s and I won't go back

I used to swear by my old Fluke 87 for everything from checking continuity on a 737 APU harness to tracing a bad pin in a GPS antenna cable. Felt like every guy in the hangar had one strapped to their belt and I was no different. Then about 8 months ago I picked up a Brymen 869s after a buddy at the Orlando MRO kept raving about the CAT IV rating and the dual display. Night and day difference when I'm troubleshooting those tricky intermittent faults on the 777 flight deck. The Fluke was solid but the Brymen catches voltage drops way faster and the backlight doesn't wash out in bright sun. Anyone else ditched a brand they were loyal to for something that just works better in the field?

Fluke was solid" - yeah, I stuck with a Wavetek until it finally died on me.

Did you give it a proper burial or just toss it in the drawer of dead things? I still got a Fluke 87 that's been beat to hell and keeps ticking like it's invincible. Guess some tools just refuse to die when you need them most.

Ha, I used to be one of those "just buy a new one" types but this whole thread got me thinking. Maybe there's something to keeping things running past their prime if they still do the job.
