Saw the difference between factory and field wiring on a Garmin G1000 install

I did a panel swap on a Cessna 172 out of San Diego last month where the factory harness was pristine but the field repairs looked like a birds nest. The old repair guy used those cheap splice connectors that corroded after 2 years. Anybody else notice how much cleaner things run when you use proper heat shrink and D-sub pins instead of those crimp connectors?

Did you use the Molex or the AMP version of the D-subs? I had a buddy who swore by the AMP ones but I always found them harder to seat without a good ratcheting crimper.

Heard AMPs hold up better over time even if theyre a pain to crimp.

Wait, did you ever try the crimp style that has the little dimple inside the barrel? I feel like that extra bit of metal helps the AMP ones grip way better than Molex once you get them seated right. Idk, maybe it's just me but once I got a proper ratcheting tool it made all the difference, like night and day with those AMP connectors.
