Overheard a senior tech say he never trusts factory wiring diagrams for older Gulfstreams
I was grabbing parts yesterday and this old timer was telling a new guy how he always double-checks the schematics on any G-IV built before 2001 because he's found three errors himself over the years. Honestly it stuck with me because last month I spent five hours tracing a faulty autopilot servo on a Citation that turned out to be a mislabeled pinout in the manual. Had I listened to advice like that sooner I could have saved a whole shift of head-scratching. Now I'm wondering if anyone else has run into factory diagrams that were just plain wrong on specific airframes. What models have you guys found that are the worst about this?

Tbh that mislabeled pinout thing is exactly what scares me about trusting older manuals. Which specific G-IV years or serial number ranges did he say were the worst? I'd love to know if there's a pattern beyond just "before 2001.

Yeah @gavinw45, the old guy specifically said anything in the 500 to 600 serial number range for G-IVs built before 2000 is where he found his issues. He mentioned power distribution diagrams mostly. On the Citation side, I've heard the 560XL manuals from the early 2000s have a known problem with the fuel quantity indicator wiring being swapped on the pinout sheet. My rule now is if the manual is over 15 years old and something doesn't add up, double check the wiring against the actual airplane before you start swapping parts. Saves you a headache and a half.
