Just realized I was wrong about using dielectric grease on all connectors

Had a senior tech tell me last week that putting dielectric grease on weatherpack connectors actually traps moisture if you don't seat them perfect. Changed my whole approach and now I only use it on battery terminals and ground lugs. Has anyone else gotten burned by following the 'grease everything' rule?

That bit about "traps moisture if you don't seat them perfect" really hits home. I had a buddy who packed dielectric grease into his trailer light connectors like he was icing a cake, and come winter they froze solid and cracked the plastic housings. Now I just give the pins a tiny smear and call it good. Funny how the simplest rule turns out to be the wrong one.

Agreed completely, I used to be that person slathering dielectric grease everywhere because I thought more was better. Actually saw a YouTube video that swore by coating the whole connector and I just followed along like a sheep. Your buddy's story about the frozen housings really woke me up though, I mean that's the kind of expensive mistake that sticks with you. Now I just put a thin layer on the pins themselves and leave the plastic parts dry. It's wild how something that seems so simple can backfire so hard when you overdo it.
